Bengaluru, 24 April: Generative AI roles are likely to see 18-20 per cent rise in the next quarter as IT firms bet big on this novel technology to drive growth.
This is despite the fact that the headcount of top IT firms including TCS, Infosys, and Wipro declining in FY24. These three firms witnessed a combined reduction of around 64,000 employees during the last financial year. For the quarter ended March, the fall was around 13,000.
“Regarding the workplace model, most of the IT companies are directing their employees to return to the office. This mandate is progressively gaining traction each quarter, with attendance numbers steadily increasing. Additionally, there is a strategic emphasis on upskilling and reskilling initiatives, particularly in areas pertinent to Generation AI. As part of this initiative, roles rooted in AI are slated for expansion, reflecting the evolving skill demands of the industry. The demand for Gen AI roles is expected to increase by 18-20 per cent in the next quarter from 13-15 per cent in the last quarter. Apart from Gen AI roles, demand for Cloud architect, Big Data engineer, and DevOps engineer roles among others will also witness a surge,” Sachin Alug, CEO of NLB Services said in a release.
The staffing firm also noted that hiring landscape would be going through a transformation with many firms opting for off-campus hiring mode.
“The hiring landscape within the IT sector has undergone notable transformations in recent quarters. For instance, companies are adopting the off-campus route for fresher hiring which reflects a shift towards prioritizing existing commitments, and adapting to a changing technological landscape in their current hiring strategy,” Alug added.
According to the staffing firm, ongoing decline in the headcount is majorly driven by IT firms’ quest for improving productivity through employee optimisation.
